This quarter, we helped three mothers deliver at CFU theater. One of the women could not deliver normally, she arrived when she was laboring and as she progressed the baby started to get distressed. She was then rushed into theatre services, which were subsidized with your help from our donors. At birth, the baby could not breathe and needed resuscitation but oxygen was not available our professional nurse was able to assist this baby to breathe by using mouth-to-mouth breathing with cloth separating them. After five minutes, the baby started breathing. This help hindered this child from the effect of lack of oxygen or suffocation which could have resulted in to brain injury and child developmental delays, a condition that is chronic and affects the cognition of this child as they grow up.
We also admitted two other mothers who also failed to progress and couldn't give birth normally. They were both taken to the theatre and delivered the babies safely. These babies cried one minute after birth and recovered without any events. The mothers also recovered after a few days.
These women had subsidized care which helped increase access to high-quality care in the disadvantaged areas of Kawempe. The babies were helped to breathe and they were discharged and have come back to the welfare clinic for immunization.
