Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a significant health concern in Venezuela, affecting many children across the country. CHD refers to a range of heart defects present from birth, which can vary in severity and impact. These conditions often require specialized medical care, including diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, regular cardiology appointments, and sometimes surgical interventions.
In Venezuela, the challenges in managing CHD are compounded by the country's economic situation. Many families, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, struggle to access the necessary medical care and medications for their children. Public healthcare facilities often face shortages of essential supplies and trained medical personnel, making it difficult for patients to receive timely and adequate treatment.
Organizations and healthcare providers are working to address these challenges by offering specialized services to low-income families. Efforts include providing cardiology consultations, performing diagnostic tests, and distributing medications to children with CHD. Education and awareness programs are also essential, as they help families understand their children's conditions and the necessary steps for managing them effectively.
Despite the obstacles, the dedication of healthcare professionals and support from various organizations continue to make a positive impact on the lives of children with congenital heart disease in Venezuela.
We have provided over 60 cardiology appointments for cardiac care, including EKGs and medications, to low-income families with children who have congenital heart disease.
We remain committed to ensuring that these children receive lifelong care.
