Our project addresses a serious lack of care and resources affecting nearly 4200 children born in Venezuela annually with congenital heart disease and less than 20% receive the cardiac care needed. Fundacion Estrellita de Belen will provide access to medical treatment, medicines, nutrition and simple heart procedures to over400 children suffering from congenital heart disease in Venezuela.
Nearly 4200 children are born in Venezuela with congenital heart disease each year of which 80% are suitable to receive proper treatment in the first months or years of life. They either die while waiting for their procedures or while making pilgrimages from hospital to hospital. Many others become inoperable due to the delay in treatment. Contributing to this situation is the lack of supplies and nutritional supplements due to the collapsed economy and supply chains.
FEdB provides funding to allow numerous doctor's visits for the initial care and early diagnosis for many children annually. Additionally, we provide the funding to enable lifesaving procedures for several children a year. A larger project budget would afford up to 20 children the ability to receive interventional procedures in one of our partner clinics as well as hundreds of others who would receive clinical visits to receive their first diagnosis.
The long-term goal is to get as many children as possible the diagnosis and prescribed interventional procedure to get them on the road to a healthier, long life. Along the way, we will partner with parents/caregivers and doctors to provide the necessary resources to afford the procedures and supplies to keep the beneficiaries healthy to bridge the time gap between the diagnosis and a interventional procedure.
