Join us in supporting W4C-sponsored woman scientist Alejandra Segura Giraldo as she undertakes a crucial research project in the Colombian Amazon Rainforest. Her work will contribute to the conservation strategies for endangered frogs & reptiles by creating the first ever species registry for amphibian & reptile species in the ProAves Jaguar Reserve. 50 years of Civil War prevented scientific research in this region for decades, meaning the reserve likely contains species new to western science.
With 41% of amphibians at risk of extinction globally, urgent action is needed to protect these vulnerable species. The Colombian Amazon Rainforest is home to nearly 230 endangered amphibian species facing extinction due to habitat loss, climate change, and disease.
Maria's research project plays a critical role in documenting and understanding these species, providing valuable data for conservation plans. By identifying populations and habitats, we can implement targeted conservation strategies to protect these endangered species.
This project will have a lasting impact on the conservation of Amazonian amphibians and reptiles. By contributing to research and conservation efforts, we can help save these species from extinction and preserve the biodiversity of the Colombian Amazon Rainforest for future generations. Your donation will directly support Maria's research and conservation efforts, ensuring the survival of endangered species and the protection of their habitats.
