Many children in Akwaya are living in households where food is a luxury. Many are taken to orphanages as vulnerable children; however, even the orphanages do not have enough for the children. Some die before the caregivers can do anything to revive their lives. It is for these reasons that FORUDEF, as an extension to its nutrition programme, has decided to support 500 malnourished children in Akwaya over a three year period. The program will also focus on prevention and nutritional education.
Cameroon has been the hub of food in Central Africa in the years past. The Cameroonians of English Language expression live predominantly on farming. They are able to fend for themselves through sales of farm products. Today the situation is different. The present political upheavals that have given rise to the children not going to school, has brought untold burdens on parents. Because of the continuous "ghost town" strikes, economic activities have drastically declined.
Objective: * To provide balanced diets to 1000 children ages 0 - 12 for a period of six months while hoping children will go back to school in September 2017. * To provide at least two square meals a day per child * To prevent malnutrition and other diseases that come along with malnutrition
We will constitute a database of all children in the three major towns of Fako Division and Manyu Divisions. This will be done using the social data collection questionnaire through semi structural interviews of households. On agreed hours of the day, the children in the selected locations will be fed in the refectory two times a day. A 4-day training workshop will be organized on healthy diets and 60 women trained organic farming and modern techniques of farming food crops.
