Project Report | May 1, 2018
Thank you Donors, Fundraisers and Supporters!

By Alejandro Vazquez | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

A great 2018 start for our partners in Children programmes, not only a new year but new equipment, training and hard work to improve their facilities and improve the lives of the little ones.

During the last three months The GVI trust has invested a considerable amount to improve the equipment and facilities of our partners Contando con un Amigo and the Integral Care Centre of Playa del Carmen.

These investments were very needed and after investigating the needs of our partners.

The remote school run by Contando con un amigo finally got connected to the electric system, this allows them to prove new educational technologies, you would be really touched by the excitement of Children when they saw their new projector and speakers, double excitement, returning to school after spring break and finding their school more interactive and fun, is not a surprise that they loved dancing with the new speakers on their warm up classes.

The 5 volunteer teachers got excited too, they received their Emergency First Response Course Participant Manuals and had their first Video session with our GVI Programme Manager who is an EFR Instructor Trainer with Spanish as his first language, the teachers became students and they showed a lot of interest in completing this course that will be completed soon.

This 2018 GVI volunteers are participating more actively at the Contando con un Amigo school, volunteers attend to the school every day and deliver important classes for Children like English lessons, Physical Activities and Environmental Awareness Classes, During March a group of STA agents participated in our Mexico Program and supported the maintenance of the school, for two days we doubled the size of the playground, protected all the trees with calcium to prevent ants eating the leaves and protected the wood of the main palapa to last longer and look prettier.

At the end of 2017 the Integral care centre got stolen few of their work tools and equipment, making harder to the teachers and director to run properly the centre, The GVI Trust and GVI acted quickly to support the recovery of the activities at the centre, a desktop, an A/C unit, a desk, and a TV wall holder, were donated to the centre, for them to keep supporting the integral education of Children and young adults with disabilities, the computer is for reporting, planning and management of the centre, the A/C is to keep a comfortable temperature while students are in physical therapies in a closed room, the TV wall holder allows them to to place the TV on a wall leaving space for activities in the room while a TV supports educational purposes and entertainment.

During the next months the teachers from Contando con un amigo will be completing their EFR Care for Children course and Save the Children will receive EFR equipment for their trained instructors and material for them to train their personal in the state of Quintana Roo.

Supporting our Childcare fund will continue supporting the local organizations to reach their potential and to provide better and more secure spaces, in Quintana Roo 7.7% of children do not have access to primary education, this primary education provides important start on their education and leads to a better future, help our team in field to contribute to the SDG’s, Quality Education, Good health and Wellbeing, reduced inequalities, climate action and partnerships for the goals.

The improvement of facilities and acquisition of equipment supports a better education and living conditions for Children, we are working hard in Partnership with Contando con un Amigo, Integral care centre and Save the Children, and together we impact the lives of over 130 Children with different vulnerabilities in Playa del Carmen, there is much done but far more to do.

Thank you for your continued support!

All the best,

Mexico Playa del Carmen
