Because of your incredible support, we were able to repair Suncokret’s temporary earthquake containers—our only workspace after the devastating collapse of the community centre roof on June 5, 2025.
But these containers were never meant to hold the heart of our work. They were too small, too limited for the workshops, learning, and joy we strive to create with local children. So we kept searching for a better solution.
After five long years of waiting for the post-2020 earthquake repairs of our old space, a new door finally opened. We were finally able to rent a space in the centre of the village—a place that will become the new Suncokret Community Center. This step forward was only possible because of you.
The space, however, needs major renovation. What once stood empty is now slowly coming back to life. We’ve cleared debris, and renovations are underway. Local volunteers have stepped in with incredible dedication—repairing, rendering, and painting walls and ceilings. It’s hard work, but it’s filled with hope. And we’re not stopping here—we’ll continue rebuilding and keep you updated every step of the way.
Through all of this, one thing never changed: we never stopped showing up.
Without proper offices or activity rooms, we adapted. Our youth staff and international volunteers brought learning directly to the children—creating tutoring and homework support programs at the elementary school. We continued weekly visits to daycare centres in Vrginmost and Topusko, and to the retirement home in Glina. Even without a home, our community work remained at the centre of everything we do.
Suncokret continues to provide free support to children, young people, and the elderly in one of Croatia’s most underserved post-war regions. Because a safe space is more than just walls—it’s where connection grows, where learning happens, and where people feel seen and cared for.
We are deeply grateful for every donation, every share, and every act of support. This journey isn’t over—but with you beside us, we know we can keep going.
Please continue to support us and help spread the word. Together, we are building more than a centre—we are rebuilding a community.
