Nyarugusu Refugee Camp hosts thousands of refugee families, including pregnant women and newborn babies who need essential healthcare services. Many mothers face challenges accessing prenatal care, safe delivery services, nutrition support, and newborn healthcare. This project will provide maternal health services, medical supplies, health education, and emergency support for vulnerable mothers. The initiative aims to reduce maternal and newborn illnesses while improving healthy pregnancies
Pregnant women in refugee camps often experience limited access to quality healthcare and skilled birth attendants. Poor nutrition increases the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Newborns face higher risks of infections, low birth weight, and preventable diseases. Financial hardship prevents many families from seeking timely medical attention. Without adequate maternal healthcare, both mothers and infants remain vulnerable to illness
Provide prenatal checkups, safe delivery support, and postnatal care for refugee mothers. Supply essential maternal health kits, newborn care items, and nutritional supplements. Support healthcare workers with medical equipment and training to improve maternal services. Conduct awareness sessions on pregnancy care, breastfeeding, hygiene, and newborn health. Establish referral support for emergency maternal and neonatal cases requiring advanced treatment.
Healthier pregnancies will lead to safer deliveries and stronger newborn survival rates. Mothers will gain knowledge and confidence to care for themselves and their children. Improved maternal health reduces healthcare costs and long-term medical complications. Children born healthy are more likely to grow, learn, and thrive in the future. The project will strengthen community health systems and promote lasting well-being among refugee families.
