Save Mothers in Walikale Safe Birth Care

In Walikale, Democratic Republic of the Congo, too many women still face childbirth without the skilled care they need. Poverty, long distances to health facilities, and the cost of maternity services often force pregnant women to delay or avoid seeking care, increasing the risk of preventable complications for both mothers and newborns. The Save Mothers in Walikale Safe Birth Care project was designed to remove this financial barrier by supporting maternity care at three local facilities: Ndjingala Health Center, Sante Plus Health Center, and Croix-Rouge Maternity Post. The project has a total funding target of US$50,000, which will help women access prenatal care, skilled delivery, emergency support, and postnatal follow-up.

At this stage, the project is in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. No project funds have yet been raised, and we are therefore being transparent with our donors about the current situation. The team is working on the identification of trainers and learners and preparing the conditions required for implementation. The project was initially scheduled to begin in November 2025, and continued support is essential to move the planned activities forward and ensure that women in some of Walikale's most underserved communities can access safe maternity services. Rather than waiting until a mother faces a life-threatening emergency, this project seeks to make professional care available before, during, and after childbirth.

With a fundraising goal of US$50,000, we are now calling on individuals, foundations, institutions, and international supporters to stand with mothers and newborns in Walikale.
