Save Homeless Cats and Dogs in the Cayman Islands

Thank you for your generous donations! These vital funds help to sustain our operations and enable us to continue rescuing and rehoming as many cats and dogs as possible.

Sadly our finances took a hit earlier this month with the news that our Thrift Store, which provides a vital source of income for the Society, was broken into and thieves stole cash, the manager's laptop and lots of valuable stock. They also ransacked the store and left our staff and volunteers with a lot of work to do to get back to business. The Thrift Store relies entirely on donations from the community and all the proceeds go directly to funding the shelter operations, without which we simply would not be able to continue rescuing the hundreds of cats and dogs who need us. As ever, we are grateful to the community for their support!

Our shelter is full and we have been inundated over the past few months with unwanted litters, primarily kittens - many of them need bottle feeding and to be kept warm and this is difficult when we have no space and our staff and resources are already stretched beyond capacity. But we are doing our best to help as many animals as possible, and we are so grateful to everyone who continues to support either by donating, fostering or volunteering - it takes a community!

Speaking of community, our outreach team continue to make regular welfare visits around the island. They walk dogs who are often otherwise tied up all day, they ensure the dogs have fresh food and water, they often wash the dogs, provide dog beds/houses to ensure the dogs have shelter from the weather, and provide welfare advice to owners. Sometimes the owners will surrender the dogs to our care and the team bring them back to the shelter for treatment, care and hopefully a chance to find their forever homes. Alpharetta and her four puppies (pictured) were recently rescued by our community team. This is vital work and is just one of the ways in which we are trying to improve the welfare of all the animals on the island as well as those in the shelter. 

Unfortunately our vet, Dr Amy, had to return to the UK so we are relying on temporary help including from local clinics whilst we try to recruit a new member of the team. This impacts our ability to undertake routine surgeries and also means we have to spend a lot more on external veterinary services, but we are hopeful to be able to bring that work back in-house in the coming months and appreciate the support of our local clinics in the meantime. 

Despite our ongoing fundraising efforts, we remain in a very challenging financial position with ever-increasing costs and animals in our care. Your support is absolutley vital in enabling us to continue our work - thank you!
