Project Report: “Save Students from AI - facilitated victimization”
Subject: Assessing the Impact of AI on Student Safety
Introduction
The " Save Students from AI - facilitated victimization " program aims to protect vulnerable students while empowering them to become proactive digital safety advocates within their peer groups and communities. As artificial intelligence (AI) technologies continue to evolve, they present both opportunities and challenges. While AI can enhance educational experiences, it also poses risks such as misinformation and propaganda, which can manipulate young people's perceptions and beliefs. This project seeks to address these challenges by educating students about the potential dangers of AI and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital landscape safely.
Success Story: Students and Community Members at Agona West
In the Agona West municipality of Ghana, students and community members have expressed their amazement at learning about the positive aspects of AI, alongside the potential risks. Many have shared their gratitude for the insights gained during our workshops, which highlighted not only the dangers of AI-facilitated victimization but also the importance of responsible digital citizenship. One student shared how the program helped him recognize misleading information online, empowering him to educate his friends about the importance of verifying sources before sharing content.
A Story About Our Constituent
Agona West municipality, located in Ghana, West Africa, has a diverse population of students who are increasingly exposed to digital technologies. Many young people in this area face challenges related to online safety, including cyberbullying and exposure to harmful content. Through our program, we aim to create a safer online environment for these students by fostering awareness and resilience against AI-facilitated victimization.
Activities
Launch of the Program:
The program was officially launched with an engaging community event that included presentations, discussions, and interactive activities aimed at raising awareness about AI and its impact on student safety.
Curriculum Development:
We developed a comprehensive curriculum that addresses the risks associated with AI technologies, focusing on topics such as digital literacy, critical thinking, and online safety practices. This curriculum will be integrated into local schools to ensure that students receive ongoing education on these critical issues.
Workshops and Training Sessions: We conducted workshops for students, teachers, and parents to discuss the implications of AI and equip them with tools to recognize and combat victimization. These sessions emphasized the importance of open communication and support systems within families and schools.
Peer Advocacy Initiatives: Students were encouraged to participate in peer advocacy initiatives, where they could share their knowledge and experiences with their classmates, fostering a culture of awareness and support within their communities.
Funds Received
While no funds have been received through the GlobalGiving platform, we have garnered local support in cash and in-kind contributions. This local support has been instrumental in exploring how AI technologies can contribute to victimization among students and in proposing strategies to mitigate these risks.
Beneficiaries
The primary beneficiaries of this program are students aged 11-15 years. This age group is particularly vulnerable to AI-facilitated victimization, making it essential to provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the digital world safely. Additionally, parents and educators benefit from the program through increased awareness and resources to support their children and students.
Finally
The "SAVE STUDENTS FROM AI-FACILITATED VICTIMIZATION" program is making significant strides in protecting students and empowering them to be advocates for digital safety. By educating young people about the risks associated with AI and fostering a supportive community, we aim to create a safer online environment for all students. As we move forward, we will continue to seek funding opportunities to expand our reach and enhance our impact on student safety in Agona West and beyond.
