Within Latin America and the Caribbean, Bolivia has the third highest rate of child mortality for children under age five with 30% of children under age three being chronically malnourished. MAP International integrates child survival and early childhood development into it's Focus 1365 Project to impact the highest amount of vulnerable children.
Bolivia's children, due to environments and circumstances outside their control, commonly face extreme risk and vulnerability. Within Latin America and the Caribbean, Bolivia has the third highest rate of child mortality for children under age five and 30% of children under age three are chronically malnourished, which contributes to the major causes of child mortality along with respiratory infections and diarrhea.
While most organizations focus on either child survival or early childhood development, MAP International integrates best practices from both areas into a seamless whole. Our innovative approach advocates healthy infant brain development as one of the most strategic interventions to break patterns of intergenerational transmission of disadvantage, violence, poverty, and ill health.
The project will help families and communities to provide nurturing conditions for pregnant women and infants and to gain control over key determinants for early brain architecture development: (1) appropriate physical nutrition, (2) emotional nourishment, (3) cognitive nourishment, (4) infant self-awareness, and (5) safe & enriching environments. Changing the Bolivian communities for long term positive impact.
