Dear Supporters,
We are very glad to share with you an update on project activities for saving giant trees in the North Western Ghats of India. We started the work of survey for identifying large trees outside the forest areas in Sangameshwar block, Ratnagiri district in the first week of the new year 2017. The objective of the survey was to locate the trees, document diversity associated/dependent on these trees,s tart a dialogue with the owners on their perception about the trees and take measures for conservation of this invaluable asset
As you will see from the database, a single large tree supports host of species including birds, reptiles, vines and butterflies. AERF was fortunate to have an intern -Aarti Sherwat a post graduate student in biodiversity conservation at its disposal to undertake this painstaking but very important work. We have added images of trees, their location map and photos of some very colorful birds. As you will understand from the attachments if we can save so much of life just by saving 12 large trees, how significant would be the impact of this work for biodiversity conservation and local communities once we reach our target of saving 1000 giant trees.
Your continuous support and encouragment is very much required for us to achieve further milestones of this interesting and challenging journey.
Do let us know your comments and suggestions
Best regards
