Sanitation and clean water a right for all.

With your generous donations Nandri has been able to provide financial resources for clean water and sanitation facilities, yet still many of our families do not have access to basic sanitation.  In some places even though new toilets and washing fac
ilities have been built by Nandri, some of the families are slow to use the new facilities. The reason for this is families are unfamiliar with using toilets as for them in the past it was normal to defecate in fields. They do not understand the need for hygiene and to only use clean water to drink and cook to prevent illness. Through our hygiene education programme, Nandri is working with the mothers to teach them in proper hygiene practices at home. By educating the mothers, they in turn will teach their families and the accessibility of sanitation and clean water will benefit the whole community.   Once the mothers understand the importance,  Nandri has taken the initiative to help them financially to build toilets in own their houses. By supporting this initiative we are building a healthier safer environment for all our families.

Traditionally, the people in rural areas have obtained water from unprotected ponds or tanks, wells, cisterns and sometimes streams and rivers. These water sources are frequented daily for collecting drinking and cooking water, washing clothes, bathing, livestock washing, etc. Mostly, these waters are unsafe for consumption due to contamination by fecal matters as well as by their heavy use.

Consequently, the population suffers from frequent epidemics. Considering the present situation of rural communities, where water from polluted sources is carried over long distances and used directly, any simple improvement in service and water quality could be expected to have a large beneficial impact on health. Nandri aims to ensure sustainable access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for our most vulnerable communities.

On behalf of all our families, we sincerely thank you for your support for this important project.  We aim to give all our families access to clean water and proper sanitation and with your help, we can make this happen and make our villages a safer and more healthy environment for all.
