Growing up in a clean and safe environment is every child's right. Access to clean water, basic toilets and knowledge of good hygiene practices are vital for a healthy start in life for our children. Without these basic needs, diseases spread and our children's health suffers. 300,000 children under the age of 5 die every year in India due to diarrhea. Much of these deaths are caused by a lack of clean water and proper sanitation. In fact diarrhea is the third leading cause of childhood mortality in India. These statistics can be substantially improved by providing a safer sanitary environment for our families.
This is Nandri's aim, to make the world our children live in a safer and cleaner place. Nandri is working with schools and health care facilities to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and washing facilities, while also educating young people on the importance of hygiene. In schools we are teaching our young women on the importance of menstrual health and hygiene and also constructing private, secure sanitation and washing facilities. We also provide disposal facilities for menstrual pads.
Education is very important for our young women to help them manage their menstrual cycle in a healthy and informed way. We also talk to our girls about the importance of keeping our surroundings clean. We encourage them to take pride in their villages and collect rubbish and dispose of household waste in a hygienic way.
Through our education programmes and our financial support to improve the accessibility of clean water and sanitation facilities, we are vastly improving the living conditions and health of our children and their families, making their world a much healthier place to live in. We cannot do this without your help and we so appreciate your financial support On behalf of all our children and their families, we say a big Nandri (thank you) to you all.
