Challenge

In Uganda an estimate of 3.5 million adolescents girls cannot reliably access and afford menstrual products. Mainly because of the non-affordability of products on the market and limited access to some parts of the country especially in rural communities. In Mpigi where l stay, over 28% of ogirls miss 4-5 school days every month because they lack what to use during their menstruation. Those that decide to attend school during this time , are forced to use unhygienic materials.

Solution

Through manufacturing reusable sanitary pads that we shall distribute to girls in rural schools, communities and refugee camps we hope to eliminate the number of girls dropping out of school because of lack of menstrual products. We as well plan to train women and girls in rural communities how to make their own reusable sanitary pads, so that they have a lifetime skill and do not have to drop out of school because they lack pads. We as well conduct menstrual awareness campaigns in rural.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide pads to 30,000 girls and women in rural communities of Uganda which will eliminate the number of girls dropping out of school because they lack menstrual products. To train and educate 100,000 girls women and men on how to make reusable sanitary pads and have knowledge about Menstrual hygiene breaking Taboos and Stigma associated with periods and creating awareness about menstruation.
