WASH Program Update
Over the past several months, we have taken time to research the water challenges facing the families and communities we serve so that we can create lasting, sustainable solutions rather than temporary fixes. We have learned that access to clean water is not simply about installing a well or a tap—it is about ensuring families have reliable access to water every day of the year. This research has helped us refine our plans and prioritize projects that will make the greatest long-term impact.
Many of the children in our program must walk up and down steep hills for nearly 30 minutes just to purchase a few buckets of water, then carry the heavy loads all the way home. That one or two buckets of what feels like "liquid gold" must be stretched to meet every need: bathing, washing clothes, cleaning the house, cooking, and drinking. With such limited water, families are often forced to choose one need over another because there simply is not enough for everything. For households led by an elderly or sick parent, even the cost of purchasing water can mean choosing between buying food or buying water.
Thankfully, these children are part of the WOW Tanzania family. Every Friday, we provide food supplementation deliveries that include staples such as rice, ugali flour, vegetables, soap, toothpaste, and other basic necessities to help ease the burden on these vulnerable families. Our next goal is to provide rainwater harvesting systems and water storage tanks for each family as funding becomes available, giving them a dependable source of clean water close to home and reducing the daily struggle of collecting it.
Because of your faithful support, we have already made tremendous progress. Together we have built toilets, installed water tanks, provided water pumps and water taps, dug wells, and improved access to clean water for many children and families.
