By Mrs. Paula Chomba | Co-Founder and Chairman
Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your generous support of our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program, where we are committed to building wells, distributing water filters, and setting up rainwater harvesting systems for Tanzania's poorest families, children, and communities. It is staggering to see how many are denied their basic human right to clean and safe water. Currently, only 61% of households in Tanzania have access to basic water supply, 32% to basic sanitation, and 48% to basic hygiene. In our target communities, more than 5,000 people suffer from inadequate water access, with 30-50% of children at partner schools unable to afford lunch and many suffering from waterborne illnesses. Unfiltered rainwater and saline groundwater exacerbate health issues and prevent gardening, worsening food insecurity.
So far, we are still in the process of raising funds. We have been selected to receive a grant from the American Embassy, but unfortunately, we have not yet received the funds and have no information on when they might arrive. In the meantime, we are working to raise awareness of the dire situation many people face. We have also begun setting up a water storage tank for two little girls who are at risk of being placed in an orphanage because their father is severely ill, their mother abandoned them, and their living conditions are so poor that they frequently fall ill as well.
Thanks to your support, we have started renovating their home, improving their access to water, electricity, and building proper toilets. This is just one example of a family we have been able to help so far. With your continued support, we can reach many more children and families in need. Currently, four schools are waiting for us to dig wells for them. We remain committed to fundraising and helping those in need as much as we can.
Please see our newsletters below for more updates on our progress.
Thank you again for helping us save lives.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Paula Chomba
