Project Overview
Safe Surgeries for 22,300 in Mapoteng, Lesotho is a project by Maluti
Adventist Hospital aimed at improving access to safe and high-quality
surgical care for a rural population of approximately 22,300 people. With a
funding goal of USD 45,000, the campaign seeks to address critical
equipment gaps in the hospital’s operating theatres, which currently limit
surgical capacity and contribute to delays.
Funds raised will support the purchase of essential surgical equipment
needed to improve patient safety, increase operating theatre efficiency and
ensure safer surgeries for the community.
Fundraising Progress & Financial Summary
To date, the project has received USD 1,145 in total donations through
GlobalGiving. After bank charges and currency conversion, the net amount
available for use is approximately USD 1,014.20 (LSL 15,977.40). We
deeply appreciate the support received so far. At this stage, the funds
available are not yet sufficient to purchase our high-priority operating theatre
equipment.
For this reason, funds raised so far are being carefully reserved until we
reach the minimum required to make a meaningful purchase that will
significantly improve surgical safety and capacity. This ensures donor
contributions are used strategically, transparently and for maximum impact in
strengthening surgical services at Maluti Adventist Hospital.
Priority Needs & Equipment Costs
The campaign’s primary focus is on acquiring critical equipment that will
directly improve surgical care at Maluti Adventist Hospital. The top-priority
items include an anesthesia machine, which costs USD 10,500, and a
Theatre Table USD 7,500. These items are essential for ensuring surgeries
are performed safely and efficiently. The current surgical tables are worn out
and non-adjustable, forcing surgeons to operate in uncomfortable positions,
while the limited anesthesia equipment restricts the number and complexity
of procedures that can be safely conducted. Meeting these critical needs will
have an immediate and tangible impact on patient outcomes and the overall
effectiveness of the hospital’s surgical services.
Next Steps & Fundraising Plan
Moving forward, the campaign will continue to focus on strategic fundraising
to support the phased purchase of priority surgical equipment, rather than
waiting to reach the full USD 45,000 before taking action. Once sufficient
funds are raised to cover the cost of the operating table, we will proceed with
its purchase immediately, while continuing to raise funds for the anesthesia
machine and other critical items.
We also plan to conduct targeted outreach to partners, supporters, and
potential donors to expand awareness of the project and mobilize additional
resources. In addition, we will participate in the GlobalGiving “Little by Little”
campaign on March 17-20 2026, during which donations will be matched,
providing an opportunity to maximize the impact of donor contributions. We
hope to receive strong support during this campaign to accelerate progress
toward our high-priority equipment needs.
Appreciation & Closing
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all donors who have supported the Safe
Surgeries for 22,300 in Mapoteng, Lesotho project. Your generosity is
helping Maluti Adventist Hospital move closer to improving surgical safety,
strengthening operating theatre capacity and delivering better care for
patients in our rural community. While we celebrate this early progress, we
still have a way to go to reach our full funding goal of USD 45,000. The
journey continues and your ongoing partnership is the key to success.
