Dear Supporter,
Thanks to your compassion and commitment to preserving human dignity, families who lost everything in the 2023 earthquake in Northwest Syria are beginning to rebuild their lives. Today, we would like to share an important update on a housing restoration initiative implemented by Freedom Jasmine Organization (FJO).
In response to the devastating earthquake and subsequent fires, FJO launched a targeted humanitarian initiative centered on preserving dignity, with a particular focus on female-headed households — women who had already lost their primary breadwinners due to the Syrian conflict and were left solely responsible for their children.
The initiative supported five female-headed families whose temporary shelters were severely damaged or completely destroyed. Among the beneficiaries was a dedicated volunteer who had previously worked with FJO, reflecting our deep commitment to standing by community members who have contributed to our mission.
Through direct financial assistance, these families were able to rebuild and rehabilitate their living spaces. Support focused on replacing destroyed shelters, providing essential materials for safe reconstruction, and ensuring families could return to secure and dignified housing after losing everything in the disaster.
The impact of this intervention has been profound. Families regained safety and privacy, which are especially critical for women and children in displacement settings. They were able to leave overcrowded camps — environments where women face increased risks of harassment and abuse — and return to more stable living conditions. Restored housing also helped ease psychological trauma caused by both the earthquake and years of conflict, giving children a safer environment to grow and continue their education.
Most importantly, this initiative reinforced empowerment and dignity. By supporting women-led households, the project recognized their leadership and resilience, enabling them to take an active role in rebuilding their lives despite overwhelming hardship.
This housing restoration initiative was more than construction — it was the rebuilding of lives. For five families, it meant a roof that offers protection, stability, and hope amid loss and displacement. Thank you for standing with Syrian women and families and for making dignity, safety, and recovery possible when it matters most.
