During this reporting period, we conducted information sessions using our Musawo Session model —a vital safe space for women, including sex workers, in the Kigungu fishing community. The session fostered meaningful discussions on SRHR, allowing participants to voice their challenges, ask critical questions, and explore practical solutions. The sessions were attended by 50 women. The sessions not only empowered them with knowledge but also provided essential resources, including condoms and lubricants.
During the same period, we held Community Moonlight Outreach on Feb 14, 2025, at Nakiwogo Fishing Landing Site. The choice to do a moonlight outreach (night time outreach) was informed by the needs of the sex workers, the dominant women category in fishing communities and fishing landing sites. Four women received post-abortion care, 25 accessed contraception, and three were referred for cervical cancer screening. Our partner, The AIDS Support Organization provided HIV testing for 80 individuals, identifying five positive cases and linking them to care.
With more support, we hope to reach every woman with unmet need of family planning services in the fishing communities.
