Unsafe Home Births Put Mothers at Risk

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank you for your interest in the Safe Birth Kits for 80 TBAs to End Maternal Deaths project. At this time, no donations have been received, so the planned distribution of safe birth kits has not yet begun.

In many rural communities in Nigeria, women continue to give birth at home without access to clean delivery supplies. Traditional Birth Attendants often work without sterile tools, increasing the risk of infection, bleeding, and other complications.

These conditions place mothers and newborns at serious risk during childbirth, even though many of these dangers can be reduced with simple, clean materials.

This project is designed to provide 80 Traditional Birth Attendants with Safe Birth Kits containing gloves, antiseptics, cord clamps, sterile blades, and clean delivery materials. Basic training will also be provided to support correct use of the kits.

With the right support, safer delivery practices can be promoted, helping to reduce preventable maternal deaths in underserved communities.

We appreciate your time in learning about this effort and remain hopeful that support will come so this project can begin and reach mothers who need safer childbirth conditions.

Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
Project Leader
