Strengthening Capacities for Resilience and Empowerment of Adolescent Mothers (S-CRAM) helps 50 adolescent mothers in Ikorodu, Lagos, transition into safe, paid employment. The project co-designs job pathways with local businesses, provides childcare and transport, and verifies placements within 90 days.
Adolescent mothers in Ikorodu, Lagos, are excluded from decent work. Childcare is unaffordable, travel can be unsafe, and many lack the ID and accounts required for formal hiring. Most training is not linked to real vacancies, while MSMEs recruit for task-ready roles and discount generic certificates. The result is unpaid training, one-off sales, and fragile income. This project will directly support fifty young mothers and their babies.
S-CRAM partners with local MSMEs to select four job pathways, then blends centre practice with supervised workplace learning. Signed MoUs reserve apprenticeships or entry-level posts, and mentors use simple competency rubrics to score readiness. Barriers are removed through an on-site micro creche, transport stipends, safe route mapping, ID and account clinics, and confidential SRHR referrals. Placements are verified within ninety days.
Graduates of the S-CRAM project gain sustained earnings, improved well-being, and safer participation. Employers gain a pipeline of task-ready junior staff, strengthening local businesses. ID and account set-up enable saving and formal wages. Alumni savings groups and shared rubrics keep results going after the grant. Each cohort benefits fifty mothers and their children, stabilises households, and builds a model that partners can scale across Lagos State.
