Many rural communities in Nigeria face persistent challenges accessing reliable safe water, adequate sanitation facilities. Families may depend on distant or unreliable water sources, while inadequate toilets and limited handwashing facilities increase exposure to preventable diseases. Women, children, and persons with disabilities often experience additional barriers to safe and dignified WASH services. Limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient community maintenance system.
The project will support improved community water infrastructure, sanitation facilities, handwashing stations, and practical hygiene education based on locally assessed needs. DACT will engage community members in water-management committees, promote safe water handling and storage, provide menstrual hygiene education, and strengthen local maintenance arrangements. Schools and households will be encouraged to adopt safer hygiene practices. Community feedback mechanisms and regular monitoring.
Project aims to contribute to healthier communities through improved access to safe water, better sanitation, and sustained hygiene practices. Reliable water services can reduce the time families spend collecting water and support children's participation in education. Inclusive sanitation and menstrual hygiene education can strengthen dignity and participation, particularly for women and girls. Community ownership and maintenance systems will help protect infrastructure, build resilience.
