CASE STUDY 1 - Successful treatment of Sanjana – As told by her mother
Name : Sanjana
Age : 7 Years Female
Diagnosis : Wilms Tumor
My name is Geetha. I am the mother of Sanjana. My daughter was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor in the year 2014. We are from Hyderabad. Sanjana is our second daughter. She is an active and bright student and the love of our family.
One day my child was suffering with stomach pain. Then we consulted with a private hospital and took medicines as prescribed. The doctor examined the child and advised CT Scans. The doctor found a tumor inside the stomach and referred to Niloufer Hospital. At Niloufer Hospital, doctors examined the child and saw all the old reports and referred us to MNJ Cancer Hospital. We were worried, as to why Niloufer doctors referred us to a cancer hospital. We visited MNJ Cancer Hospital with a lot of worry and fear. We consulted Dr. Sudha Sinha, the pediatric medical oncologist in the medical oncology department. She spoke to us pleasantly and eased out concerns. She evaluated the reports, examined the child and she gave us a lot of hope, that our child would be cured.
My child Sanjana was diagnosed with Wilms tumor. After completion of proper investigations per Dr. Sudha Sinha’s advice and with the guidance of Impact counselors, we admitted our daughter in the pediatric ward run by Impact. Impact counselors explained the entire process of treatment like chemotherapy, role of surgery and importance of radiation. Then they explained chemotherapy schedule, side effects of chemotherapy and prognosis. I still remember how worried I was concerning my child’s situation and the disease. Impact counselors gave me a lot of hope, support and put us at ease. I felt so relieved and happy when my daughter completed the chemotherapy, surgery and radiation successfully. Impact assured that they will take responsibility for the entire treatment, required nutrition and medical needs.
My daughter Sanjana is finally cured after one year of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation with the help of Impact. Psychological and financial support was provided by Impact team. We never lacked a thing after getting her admitted into Impact ward. We feel lucky to have admitted her in the Impact ward. We are very happy to see my daughter today. I am very much thankful to the Impact team and Dr. Sudha Sinha who have a new hope of life to my child. I can never forget their help and support. “May god always bless, for helping needy people like us”.
CASE STUDY 2 – Treatment in progress for HARSHINI
Name : Harshini
Age : 2 ½ Years / Female
Diagnosis : Ewing’s Sarcoma
Address : H.No: 4-130 Kotha Lingala, Khammam.
Harshini is six years old. She is from Kotha Lingala Mandal of Khammam district. Her father works as a daily wage labor and mother is a house wife. Harshini doesn’t have any siblings. They hail from a financially poor family.
Medical History: In the beginning the child was unable to pass urine and suffered with stomach pain and swelling. So parents immediately consulted with Mamatha Hospital at Khammam district. There the doctors saw the patient condition and suggested an ultrasound. After scanning, they diagnosed that the child as suffering with piles. So doctors gave medications for three days. But the child was not cured and then the parents consulted Venkateshwara Hospital. The doctors suggested for some more investigations like CBP, X-ray and well as urine test. After that the doctors were unable to identify the actual cause. So they referred to Srilekha Hospital, wherein the doctors there also suggested same types of investigations. Here the doctors identified a tumor in the stomach. Then the doctors referred the child to Niloufer Hospital which is a government hospital located at Hyderabad. The parents were not satisfied with the treatment at that government hospital. Immediately parents took the child to Rainbow private hospital in Hyderabad. There the doctors admitted the child and did some more investigations like biopsy and CBP tests, where they confirmed that child is suffering with cancer. They quoted a huge amount for treatment. But the parents could not afford that much money. So they went to Basvatharaka Cancer Hospital. The doctors after seeing old reports, suggested for BMA and with the help of BMA report they confirmed that child is suffering with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of cancer. The doctors referred them to MNJ Cancer Hospital. MNJ doctors saw the previous reports of other Hospitals. MNJ Doctors suggested CBP, LFT/RFT and FNAC tests and diagnosed the condition as cancer. Doctors explained the prognosis and treatment process to her parents and started the treatment.
Present Status:
After the explanation of prognosis and treatment process, parents were worried whether the child would survive the disease. She, being their only one daughter only aggravated their concerns.
