Case Study of Meganath
Name : Meganath
Age : 8 years
Gender : Male
Diagnosis : Ewing’s Sarcoma
Address :Ramapuram, Kurnool
Family History: Meganath is five year old boy from a poor joint family of eleven members. They hail from a small village called Ramapuram, in Kurnool district. His father works as daily wage laborer in weighbridge sector earning a meager amount of Rs. 5000/- per month. His mother is a housewife and he has an elder sister studying in her 6th grade while he himself is in 2nd grade.
Medical History: Four months back Meganath had a fall and developed a swelling in his upper right thigh. A Physician in a local clinic in the village checked the child and prescribed some medicines and informed that in case the swelling doesn’t subside then they will have to go for scanning.
As suspected the swelling did not subside even after one week after which they visited government general hospital in Podduttor, but unfortunately there was no medical equipment required for checking severe tumors. They were advised to immediately visit Kadapa government hospital. Doctors checked the boy and suggested biopsy and scanning. Even after undergoing all the investigations, doctors there could not pin point the exact cause and hence referred the case to Kurnool government hospital. Here the boy had to undergo another biopsy and detailed blood tests. After this biopsy and blood tests, evidence of malignancy was found and was finally referred to MNJ Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad.
After Meghanath was admitted into MNJ Cancer Hospital , pediatric medical oncology doctors reviewed his case and conduced few more investigations like CBP, LFT, X-ray and upon studying the reports diagnosed that the child is suffering from Ewing’s Sarcoma, A cancer that most often occurs in and around the bones and typically occurs in children and young adults. It often begins in the legs, bones of the pelvis and arms. Parents were given a detailed briefing about the disease, it’s prognosis as well as details of cancer treatment and finally the risk factors associated with the treatment. IMPACT counselors clarified their doubts and concerns. They explained the chemotherapy treatment procedure and mentally prepared them for the long haul fight against cancer. Finally they imparted health and hygiene education and admitted Meganath into the IMPACT pediatric ward for chemotherapy treatment.
