Rotary Shelterbus for the Homeless in Birmingham

As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, we'll give you a short but sweet update on our project. Since the last time we've reported, there have been a few exciting updates....

In June, we officially handed our first bus over to Food4All in Stratford, London. This bus will be used as a Food Bus, helping this charity to provide nourishing meals to homeless and low income individuals in the Stratford area. This bus is currently undergoing its transformation, and will be soon be on the road. More details on it's official launch will be provided ASAP. For more information on Food4All, check out their website: https://food4alluk.org/

In September, you should see our first Shelter Bus in Wolverhampton. We're still solidifying our partnership, but we've found a great organisation with an even greater vision to help us bring our project to life. More information on the official announcement of our partner and the launch date of this bus will be provided closer to the date.

It's getting closer, can you spare another £1?

We're so thankful for your donations and support along the way. With your help, we've raised vital funding to help bring our vision to life. However, we still need donations to help us reach our first target of £35,000. If ever person that's donated gave an extra £5-£10 we could be that much closer! Better yet, help us spread the news. Whether it's sharing via Facebook, email or in person, your voice helps us to spread our message and make this project even greater.

Things are looking up for our bus. Thank you again for all that you do and have an amazing summer break!

Kind regards,

The Shelter Bus team

Happy spring!

Whilst the mild winter was settling over England, Team ShelterBus was hard at work finalising partnerships to bring ShelterBus to two cities in the UK within the next few months.

At our Rotary club's civic breakfast, we unveiled a soft press release of a partner in a major West Midlands city to be released ASAP, and within the next few weeks you may see a Rotary ShelterBus in one of the country's largest cities. At the moment, our team is working hard with our solicitor to finalise contracts and ensure that every party involved is protected and prepared.

It's been a winter full of hard work, but we're excited to see the bulbs we've been planting bloom this spring. We'll send an official press release when our buses are road ready, but until then keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels.

Lastly, thank you for everyone's continued donations to our project. We know when the first bus goes live this project will be the talk of the town, but we won't forget all of the people who helped to fuel our dreams in the early days. It is because of you that we are continually inspired to continue to press forward and make new connections that can bring a ShelterBus to areas throughout the UK.

We'll keep you updated!

Kind regards,

The ShelterBus Team

Hello from Team Shelterbus!

First and foremost, let us say on behalf of everyone working behind the scenes here, thank you to all of our donors and supporters for all of your kindness and generosity. The latter end of 2018 was equally challenging and rewarding, but we are happy to report there are big things ahead for Shelterbus in 2019.

We welcomed new additions to the team--what can you bring to the table?

With our continued growth came new additions to the team, working diligently behind the computer helping us with our social media, our media planning and our fundraising connnections. We're always looking for more volunteers to help us take this project forward. Do you know someone who would be interested or would you like to help us with your talents? Get in touch and we'd love to have a chat to see what you can do. Similarly, if you're in the Birmingham area and want to join our Rotary Club for breakfast we meet every Friday morning at the ICC at 7:30AM. Come and join us for a full english and a bit of fellowship.

We raised vital funding--your donations matter!

This year, we raised £3,000 from Tesco Bags of Help, we raised £4,000 worth of Jewsons Building Supplies through their community outreach programme, and with these funds and individual/group donations throughout the year, we raised a total of nearly £13,000. We're continuously appealing for support, and every £ brings us that much closer to getting Shelterbus on the road.

We built partnerships--A Shelterbus coming to your neck of the woods soon!

As finding a partner is the most important step in bringing our vision to life, our team worked diligently to spread our name and build connections with like-minded businesses who would be interested in taking this project forward. Whilst we suffered our fair share of challenges and set backs, we ended the year with an optimistic outlook for bringing a Shelterbus to the Midlands and London. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media pages for updates on our progress and the final launch dates.

2018 has been such a successful year. We couldn't be more thankful for your donations and your time. Every donation matters, every Facebook comment or like matters, every thoughtful email matters. Keep in touch, and keep spreading the word...2019 will be a big year for Shelterbus!

Dear Friend,

You subscribed to email updates from Rotary Shelterbus for the Homeless in Birmingham by Rotary Club of Birmingham Breakfast Charitable Trust, a project on GlobalGiving. Here's the unedited update from the field:

It is important to all of the Trustees at Rotary Shelter Bus that we keep all of our generous donors up to date on the latest behind-the-scenes news of Shelter Bus.

Finding our partner

The Trustees have been busy behind the scenes working with the local authority in Birmingham to negotiate a partnership. As you know, solidifying a charity/local authority partner is a vital step in ensuring Shelter Bus is up and running. We understand that our tenants will come from all walks of life, some with complex needs that require specialist care. Currently, we are working with the Street Intervention Team to nail out the logistics of how this partnership will work and what funding will be required from both parties. Our goal is for this partnership to be official by the end of the summer or at minimum we have a solid timescale to update our donors further. Stay tuned to our social channels and your inbox for further information.

Fundraising Update

We are also applying for grants to ensure we have sufficient funds to keep the service running.
Rotary Shelter Bus was one of the selected charities to receive a donation from Jewsons building better communities grant scheme. We were donated £4,000, thank you Jewsons.

We have also taken part in the Tesco's Blue tokens. We are currently awaiting the results. this will be a massive help in supporting our funding.

Bus Renovation Update

We are working tirelessly to get our bus ready to be sent to get converted. Our first priority is to ensure we have our partnership organisation locked in, to give assurance to our generous stakeholders that our project is fit for long-term success. Our current talks with the local authority have highlighted even more insight on how to best utilise space in the design. Therefore, a final date on the renovation of ShelterBus is in the works once that partnership and final bus design is solidified.
Volunteer Opportunities

We are always looking for support in the planning and behind the scenes running of the Rotary Shelter Bus. Whether you can help get funding through grants or donations or be a volunteer speaker to help raise awareness by giving talks to different audiences and attending local events.

Thank you so much for all of your support so far. We are continuously taking donations on this platform, as well as any volunteers looking to help make our cause a reality. Don't forget to stay tuned to our Facebook page and share the news. The more people we reach, the more good we can do for our local community.

Have a wonderful summer.

Kind regards,

The Rotary ShelterBus Team
