This is the first of two reports demonstrating the impact of Rosa’s Covid-19 emergency response funding for women’s and girls’ organisations in the UK. Rosa recognised early on the devastating impact the pandemic would have on women and girls, and the very real threat posed to organisations that were already doing so much with so few resources.
Rosa responded to the crisis by investing over £1m in small grants to 72 frontline organisations led by and for women and girls. This helped with capacity building to meet surges in demand and facilitated the distribution of essential provisions and online support. As a result, over 46,800 women and girls directly benefitted from Rosa’s Covid-19 emergency response funding.
The grants helped people like Fazana, who worked with Migrant Family Support.
“Fazana is a young Zimbabwean woman (21) whose mother died during the first wave of the pandemic. She had so much anger and was estranged from her father and grandparents. She was struggling to attend university and concentrate on part-time work. She was suicidal and drinking heavily to mask the pain. We were able to offer her one to one support. As her confidence increased, she was able to join the group sessions and found comfort in sharing her experiences and learning how to deal with grief. She gained confidence to return to university and even work.”
Fazana said: "Thank you for stepping into my life when you did. You ladies all saved my life. I was on the verge of giving up on everything. I know mum is gone but I have gained sisters and mothers who are always there for me."
(Migrant Family Support, 2021)
Fazana's life was changed thanks to investment by Rosa's valued donors. Thank you.
