Project Progress Report: RollingHope: Balochistan Wheelchair Fundraiser
Implemented by: Balochistan Rural Development Program (BRDP)
Project Lead: Mehmood Rind Baloch, Program Manager
Fundraising Platform: GlobalGiving
Overall Fundraising Goal: USD 31,001
Funds Raised to Date: USD 1,052
Background and Rationale
Across Balochistan, thousands of people living with physical disabilities face daily barriers due to poverty, lack of assistive devices, and limited access to rehabilitation services. Mobility, which is a basic human right, remains out of reach for many individuals—particularly in rural and underserved areas. Recognizing this urgent need, BRDP initiated the RollingHope: Balochistan Wheelchair Fundraiser to restore mobility, independence, and dignity to persons with disabilities through the provision of wheelchairs and tricycles.
This initiative is rooted in BRDP’s broader commitment to inclusive development and social justice, ensuring that marginalized communities are not left behind.
Project Purpose
The project aims to address mobility-related challenges faced by persons with disabilities by:
Enabling independent movement through the provision of wheelchairs and tricycles
Reducing dependency on family members and caregivers
Improving access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods
Promoting inclusion and respect for the rights of persons with disabilities
Financial Progress Overview
Through the GlobalGiving platform and individual donor contributions, the project has successfully mobilized USD 1,052 to date. While this represents a modest portion of the overall target, the funds have been strategically utilized to ensure immediate and visible impact at the community level.
Key Outputs and Results Achieved
Despite limited resources, the project has delivered meaningful outcomes:
Mobility Support Delivered:
10 wheelchairs
5 tricycles
These were distributed to carefully identified beneficiaries based on need and vulnerability.
Direct Impact:
Beneficiaries have reported improved mobility, increased self-confidence, and greater participation in social and economic activities.
Community-Level Change:
Distribution activities created awareness within communities about disability rights and the importance of accessibility.
Documentation and Transparency:
Photographs and beneficiary feedback were collected to ensure accountability and to share real stories of change with donors.
Implementation Approach
BRDP adopted a community-based approach for beneficiary identification and distribution. Local contacts, families, and community elders were consulted to ensure fair and transparent selection. Priority was given to individuals with severe mobility limitations and no financial means to purchase assistive devices on their own.
Constraints and Operational Challenges
The implementation process has faced several challenges:
Limited Funding:
Current resources restrict the scale of outreach, while requests for assistance continue to rise.
Terrain and Distance:
Transporting mobility aids to remote districts of Balochistan involves logistical difficulties and additional costs.
Low Awareness:
In many areas, disability remains a neglected issue, limiting community-driven support mechanisms.
Way Forward
To expand impact and achieve project objectives, BRDP plans to:
Intensify online fundraising and donor engagement on GlobalGiving
Build partnerships with corporate donors, philanthropists, and disability-focused organizations
Extend outreach to additional districts with high unmet needs
Share regular impact updates to strengthen donor confidence and transparency
Advocate for greater public and governmental support for disability inclusion
Closing Statement
The RollingHope: Balochistan Wheelchair Fundraiser has demonstrated that even limited resources can create profound change when used with purpose and compassion. The provision of mobility aids has not only improved physical movement but has also restored hope, dignity, and independence for some of the most vulnerable individuals in Balochistan.
With continued support, this initiative can grow into a province-wide movement for accessibility and inclusion. BRDP remains committed to ensuring that no person with a disability is confined by poverty or neglect.
We sincerely thank all donors and supporters who have contributed so far and invite others to join us in expanding this life-changing effort.
