Thank you so much for supporting this project. I am writing to share some updates about our response to the food crisis in East Africa. We are appreciative for your time and willingness to learn about this crisis.
East Africa is experiencing one of its worst food and water crises on record. Over 22 million people all over the region are experiencing food and water shortages including communities in Somaliland, Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Communities in these countries are facing the deterioration of their vegetation conditions, pasture, and livestock, as well as widespread livestock deaths, limited access to income, and forced displacement.
In response to this devastating crisis, over 93,000 people in Kenya have received cash transfers, water, food, and access to school feeding programs. More than 28,000 people in Somaliland have been given cash transfers, and fruit and vegetable gardens. Over 2,000 people who have experienced gender-based violence have also been provided with safe spaces and counseling. Women all over East Africa have also received hygiene and dignity kits, clothing, and other necessities. As we continue to help relieve the food crisis in this region, we are putting women and girls at the forefront of our work. We remain committed to providing short- and long-term relief in East Africa.
Thank you for being part of the ActionAid team and remaining committed to justice, equity and sustainability.
