Most Malawian trafficking victims are exploited internally, though Malawian victims of sex and labor trafficking have also been identified in various countries in Africa and Europe. To a lesser extent, Malawi is a transit point for foreign victims and a destination country for girls subjected to conditions of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. Therefore, there is a strong need to strengthen knowledge and understanding about this serious crime, its effects on girls.
Trafficking in human beings is considered to be a form of modern day slavery. It is often linked to organized crime and deemed to be one of the most profitable global criminal activities. In accordance with European Commission's Migration and Home Affairs provided data women and children are particularly affected: women and girls represent 56 % of victims of forced economic exploitation and 98 % of victims of forced commercial sexual exploitation. And Malawi is primarily a source country for men
Therefore CEGI intend to empower the communities and girls as well as preventing trafficking through raise the awareness of potential victims and their communities to the risks of trafficking and the recruitment methods used by traffickers. In areas where people are desperate and opportunities are low, experience shows that general warnings of the dangers of migration are not enough. Women and youth need to understand how traffickers work and how to evaluate recruitment offers.
Education and Awareness are well recognize that knowledge is the first line of defence against human trafficking. To achieve this, we intend to develop and deliver comprehensive educational programs targeted at 400 diverse age groups within our community. These programs will be designed to sensitively educate individuals about the various forms of trafficking, the vulnerable populations at risk, and the methods employed by traffickers.
