This project will give a chance to children who missed their grades or dropped out of school due to poverty resulting in parents failing to pay school fees. The children will be tutored though a community based study group through an accelerated learning model. The process involves identification of children from 8 years to 18years, pretesting, teaching, assessment for readiness and reintegration into main schools. The aim is to ensure that at least all children complete primary and secondary.
Due to socio-economic challenges that have been affecting Zimbabwe for more than a decade now, most families have been hard hit by poverty. This has resulted in families failing to raise income to maintain or send their children to school. Children since 2007, when the economic crisis was at peak, either dropped out of school or missed their grades. This has resulted in children lying idle and exposed to social-economic ills like drugs, early pregnancy, street begging, theft.
The project will be the bridge between the school and the community. Since the children cannot be directly enrolled into the mainstream schools, the project will provide accelerated learning through community study group. When children are ready to join the main schools, they are reintegrated and their fees paid for. The project will ensure that at least children complete primary and secondary level education. Parents will be supported to raise income for further support of their children.
Education is the key to opportunities and unlocking potential in human beings. In investing in education the country benefits in having citizens who are better able to develop their nation thereby reducing poverty. It also reduces the exposure to immediate risks for children such as early marriages, unwanted pregnancies, drug and substance abuse and theft which are social ills. Literacy enables children to tap in the opportunities on the global market.
