Rhinoplasty for Rhinos unites surgeons from across the globe in a powerful act of conservation. In partnership with Dr Cameron McIntosh INC, participating plastic surgeons donate one surgery each year to help protect, rehabilitate, and secure a future for one of Africa's most iconic species, the rhino.
Rhinos face an escalating crisis driven by illegal poaching, habitat loss, and organised wildlife crime. At Shamwari and elsewhere, rhinos are constantly threatened due to the continuous onslaught by poachers using different methods such as direct killings of rhino as well as bribery and threats to surrounding local communities. Habitat fragmentation further reduces safe space for wildlife. Without sustained protection, monitoring, and habitat expansion, rhino populations risk severe decline.
Shamwari's Rhino Conservation Programme protects rhinos through immediate protection and long-term habitat restoration. At the Shamwari Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, orphaned and injured rhinos receive expert veterinary care before returning to the wild. Support will help fund anti-poaching patrols, advanced monitoring using sophisticated equipment, community engagement, and the rehabilitation and expansion of protected land, giving rhinos the space and security they need to survive.
This project supports the long-term survival of rhinos. Orphaned rhinos are rehabilitated and returned to the wild, while populations are protected and stabilised. Habitats are restored, protected, and expanded. By strengthening ecosystems and working with communities, the programme reduces poaching and improves biodiversity. Donations protect existing rhino populations and enables wildlife veterinarians and managers to translocate additional rhinos to other safe havens to start new populations.
