For the last 6 months, members of the community based organiation, Village Health Project- Uganda, have been dligently saving money in their Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO). As little as $0.50 each week from members has allowed 4 members of VHP-U to receive a water tank for their families. Ordinarily, a lump sum of funding required for getting a tank is unattainable for most residents of Lweza. The SACCO and your donation has made this possible. And a water tank is a game-changer. Not only has the construction of these tanks created jobs for youth in the community, it has provided stability in access to water for many in Lweza.
A particularly rainy March and April throughout central Uganda has resulted in full tanks for the 4 recipients. They have been using the tanks for farming (irrigating crops with drip irrigation or a watering can), household needs (bathing, drinking, and, and cleaning), to feed livestock (chicken, cattle).
The work is far from done. The community still has a goal of constructing 10 more water tanks so that mothers like Nora (pictured here) can have an abundance of water for her children.
