On July 29-30, a new international festival of throat singers in Tyungur Village at the base of sacred Mount Belukha, called "Eelu kai" - "Sacred Kai." The event was sponsored in part through funds donated by you and others to Altai Mir University.
The grand prize winner was a young man from Tyungur Village, who was also the host of the festival.
This event is a great milestone in our prolonged effort to preserve the ancient Altai culture---especially our support of young throat-singers who convey Altai's oral histories through the singing of the epic ballads, known as kai.
As our Altai project leader writes, "This is the first such achievement of the people of our district. This means that the earth is awakening, re-acquiring its spiritual essence. I'm glad, very glad. Our efforts with you have not been in vain!"
Thank you for your continuing support of the people of Altai and their cultural heritage of global importance.
