Last winter, our local project manager Svetlana Katynova received a
government grant to reconstruct an ancient instrument called a dyadagan,
which is named in Altai epic poems as having magical powers.
All summer, teams of ancient music experts have been working diligently in
a woodworkers' studio in Gorno-Altaisk, toward which your donations
contributed as a stopgap to the not-quite sufficient government grant. Only
remnants of the wooden instruments still exist, leaving lots of room for
variations in design.
But of course, the proof is in the sounds made by these instruments. Now,
our team is preparing for a grand presentation/concert.
