Leaving No Child Behind

There`s an African saying that goes, “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” In context, it can be translated as our collective responsibility to ensure that every child is not deprived of their basic needs. With your support, our programmes are impacting many children's lives. It is our desire to see more lives changed. As revealed in this report the impact is sizable. We desire to make it better continually.

Through our School Transition Programme, children are placed into different classes or grades based on their ability to read and write. For instance, Johnson who is 15 years old was placed in Grade 5 because he could only read up to that level. Under normal circumstances, he would either be completing his primary education or just joining secondary school. Johnson, an orphan, was forced to stay out of school because he had to fend for himself working in a gold mine away from Nairobi. He was rescued by his aunt and got enrolled into the programme. Through the accelerated learning programme (ALP), Johnson’s literacy skills have been improved. His mentors, teachers and student buddies have helped him settle well in school. This far, we are proud to see him improve and very optimistic about his education. Johnson has not once missed school.

In October, the social workers will embark on the annual process of identifying and enrolling 35 vulnerable children from Kibera to join the programme in January, 2023. This rigorous process includes shortlisting, oral interviews, home visits, academic assessments, admissions and finally orientation of both parents and the children.

Thank you so much for enabling Johnson and many other children to return to school and live their dream of completing primary school.
