Education is Freedom

By Brenda Kaloki | Field Worker

The New Year is always an exciting time for our Transition Program. It’s exciting because as we celebrate the students who have successfully transitioned to Primary School, we open our hands to receive new student.

Since its inception the program has been receiving 30 Students every year but this New Year we open our doors and hearts to 50 students. 30 of these students will be receiving early childhood education and 20 are out-of-school children who will be prepared to re-enter formal primary education next year.

“Education is freedom” Paulo Freire. It’s our hope that we will teach these children to be free. In the classroom we will teach them the freedom to learn and unlearn concepts, the freedom to ask questions when they don’t understand, the freedom to be kind to their classmates, the freedom to expand their vision of their future, the freedom to learn from their mistakes rather than feeling defeated.

In the playground, we will teach them the freedom to be children and play the games that cause them to laugh, to embrace each other’s strength, to learn as they play and to grow their minds and bodies.

We want our students to be free to envision themselves achieving more than those who have gone before them and beyond the invisible limits created by their environment.

Thank you for believing and supporting our vision this far and as we begin this new year we are confident that we can count on your support.

Happy New Year.
