Since September 2025, ODDPH, in collaboration with SODEPA (Solidarity for Development and Peace), has been preparing a vocational training project in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, to support girls and women whose lives have been deeply affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, and limited economic opportunities. The project will provide practical training in tailoring and dressmaking, helping participants develop skills they can use to earn an income, start small businesses, and build greater economic independence. The total funding target is $12,000, and no funds have yet been raised. We are currently in the preparation phase, identifying qualified trainers and vulnerable women and girls who will benefit from the program.
Although the training has not yet begun, important groundwork is underway to ensure that the project is relevant, well organized, and accessible to the women it is intended to serve. Once funding is secured, the project will move into implementation and provide hands-on vocational training, practical guidance, and support for participants as they work toward becoming financially self-reliant. In communities where many families struggle to meet basic needs, a practical skill can become much more than a means of earning money—it can offer a woman a path toward dignity, confidence, and a more secure future for herself and her family.
