This project will restore 24hour maternal and newborn care at Pearl Medical Center in rural northern Uganda by reopening the maternity ward, deploying skilled midwives, supporting emergency referrals, and ensuring safe deliveries for thousands of women who currently lack access to lifesaving care.
There are more than 7,600 households in Lamwo District without access to safe maternal delivery services. Pearl Rural Care once supported 40-50 births each month, but maternity care stopped due to the inability to retain skilled midwives. Pregnant women now face unsafe home births or long travel during labor, increasing risks of hemorrhage, infection, and newborn complications. This project will restore maternity services and safe delivery access in rural northern Uganda and save lives now!.
This project will reopen and sustain 24 hour maternity and newborn services by funding skilled midwives, essential delivery supplies, and emergency referral support. Laboring mothers will receive skilled monitoring, safe delivery, immediate newborn care, and prompt referrals when complications arise. The project will also stabilize services while awaiting long-term government PHC funding.
This project will restore 24hour skilled maternity care for over 7,600 households, directly benefiting thousands of pregnant women and newborns in Lamwo District. By reducing preventable deaths and increasing use of safe deliveries, it will strengthen maternal health, protect newborns, and build a healthier future for families in rural northern Uganda.
