Across our community, many older adults are living in heartbreaking conditions- living in poverty or staying in unsafe structures. When these seniors are referred to our elderly care institution, they often arrive with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and shoes on their feet. Although the government provides subsidies for basic board, bedding and meals, it does not cover all the essentials needed to help these seniors transition from crisis to dignity.
Elderly individuals facing poverty are among the most vulnerable members of society. Many suffer from neglect, untreated medical issues, trauma and the loss of family support. This project fills the critical gaps by providing transition support packages, including clothing, hygiene supplies, room setup and opportunities for social connection, to restore a sense of self-worth, safety and wellbeing.
