Development Alert is committed to restoring 3,500 hectares of degraded shoreline along Lake Victoria, one of Africa’s most vital freshwater ecosystems. The lake supports millions of people through fishing, agriculture, and water supply, yet increasing environmental degradation has placed both livelihoods and biodiversity at risk.

Our restoration initiative focuses on rehabilitating critical shoreline areas through tree planting, wetland regeneration, and community-led conservation practices. By working closely with local communities, we aim to rebuild natural buffers that protect the lake from erosion, pollution, and the impacts of climate change.

We recently held productive meetings with development partners from Ohio State University, working together as joint partners to support a fundraising initiative aimed at mobilizing resources for long-term sustainability projects.

Together, we explored strategies to raise funds that will directly support community-led projects, including conservation, restoration, and climate resilience efforts.
