Restoration Is Possible

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

Dear Friend,

Uganda’s natural ecosystems are under increasing pressure, and some of the most fragile areas are the shores of Lake Victoria—an ecosystem that supports millions of people through water, food, and livelihoods.

Today, much of this shoreline is degraded due to deforestation, pollution, erosion, and unsustainable land use. As the land weakens, so do the communities that depend on it. Fish stocks decline, water quality reduces, and flooding risks increase- affecting both people and nature.

But restoration is possible.

Development Alert is working to restore 3,500 hectares of Lake Victoria’s lakeshores, reviving wetlands, protecting biodiversity, and rebuilding natural buffers that safeguard both the environment and local communities.

This effort is not just about trees or land- it is about restoring life. It means cleaner water, stronger ecosystems, improved livelihoods, and a more resilient future for generations to come.

But we cannot do this alone.

We invite you to join us in restoring these fragile ecosystems. Your support will help rehabilitate degraded lakeshores, protect Lake Victoria, and bring lasting environmental balance back to the region.

Together, we can restore what is being lost-and protect what matters most.
