Tony, a small business owner, knows first hand the pain and loss that Covid-19 brings. When the virus surged in Bay County during the summer of 2020, Tony's immediate family paid the ultimate price twice times. Tony's father-in-law and brother-in-law succumbed to complications from Covid-19. In the span of 45 days, 26 of Tony's family members, including his 14-year-old daughter, contracted Covid-19.
Tony is the lead Community Health Connector, funded by a $3,000 grant from the Gulf Power Foundation that serves Northwest Florida. He connects seniors and others shut in by Covid-19 with community resources, including the Covid-19 Monitoring Kits assembled by the RAC Bay County organizations.
GlobalGiving funds provide Personal Protection Equipment and Monitoring Kits to people in the targeted neighborhoods that cannot afford them. Tony distributes the PPE and Monitoring Kits through a network of community resourses and organizations..
Before and since this experience, Tony has been part of the Resilience American Communities (RAC) Bay County initiative that has tracked Covid-19 locally since its first positive case in March.
