When you heard about the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, you stepped up and gave generously to help the people whose lives were torn apart by this disaster. Thank you.
With your help, more than 3,000 families received emergency food in the days after the typhoon hit. These families also received emergency supplies like blankets, sleeping mats, mosquito nets, and hygiene kits.
More recently, as people have begun to rebuild their homes and lives, those 3,000 families received vegetable seeds to reestablish vegetable gardens and start to grow their own food. Your support also helped set up Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) to support the emotional needs of traumatized children.
People are taking responsibility for rebuilding their homes, but they need materials and support. Your gift assisted with shelter materials to families as well, including tarps, rope, plywood and metal sheeting.
“Now that you are helping us, thank you, thank you very much," said Teodora, a grandmother who lost her grandchild in the rising flood waters. Her message of gratitude is for you.
Our staff and partners have witnessed traumatized people rising above the devastation and asking to work with us -- to collaborate in their own recovery, rather than wanting us to do it for them. Isn't that amazing?
Below is a link to a short video update on how your gift helped save lives in this crisis. I hope you'll take a moment to watch it and see what a difference you made in the lives of so many, bringing hope and practical help in a time of great need.
