Last night 10pm a fire ravaged through our rescuse centre/farm in South Africa and we only have ashes left.
We have been dealt with severe difficulty especially with extreme financial pains with funders struggling themselves with the high increased living costs and rebuilding lives post covid. We are struggling I just cannot understand why us, why this had to happen now too, why do we work so hard not for ourselves but for the overwhelming need that animals are in
As I look at the ashes of what was once home to Tinkie our farm lady who looks after all our rescued animals, as well as home to our free roaming cats and Boere our dog who came to the haven one day and never left and surveys the haven at night, I feel sick to my stomach.
The wind just revved up the flames, everything started exploding and we couldn't get all our animals out, sadly some got burned, in desperation we depleted our 3 fire exstinguishers, grabbing sand and branches, because it was loadshedding and we didn't have water, the wind was blustering and it was like standing in the pit of hell itself. Local residence heard our cry for help and many pitched up to help us including local security forces and local farmers came to our aid with tractors and water and eventually the fire servcie turned up with three trucks but it was too late to save anything.
All our animals are okay but we have a few at the vet's being treated for burns and smoke damage, which is another cost we must find a way to pay but we can't say no to these animals in need. The person that started the fire has been caught and is in custody at the police station and we hope the case sticks but without insurance we are sitting here left with nothing.
Action Change have been amazing and come to our aid to help us but together we need to urgently appeal for emergency funds to house everyone and start to rebuild. It currently looks like we have around $10,000 worth of damage which is a huge amount for us to get back on track but we have faith and dedicated team of people and we hope to be able to rebuild as our project is critical to the survival of these animals.
I am sorry to write such a bad report before the festive season but we have been taken to our knees within just 2 hours from an evil act and we now need your help more than ever before. I know that governments are charging us more and the cost of living is so much higher and many of you would love to help but also face your only daily struggles so if you can't donate we would be greatful if you can share our story with others and we hope someone will come to our rescue but for now we will not give up our fight!
Thank you so much for reading and being apart of us, we really value you all!
