Sponsorship Update
The Stop Child Labour & Trafficking Project keeps Cheerful Hearts Foundation and our volunteers in constant contact with exploited children in impoverished communities. At times it can be quite overwhelming when you realize that CHF is unable to assist every child or family to overcome their economic hardships. The perseverance and wonderful success stories from our sponsored students are just some of the reasons that we continue to tirelessly work on this epidemic. One such story is from Emmanuel Gyesi. When we met Emmanuel he was 14 years old living in Nyanyano with his mother and father, both of which have no formal education. His father is a subsistence farmer and his mother is a trader. They were unable to pay for Emmanuel’s school fees, let alone purchase a uniform, books and supplies. Because he was unable to attend school, Emmanuel would help his father on the farm where he would sometimes earn 2-4 Ghana Cedis ($1-2 USD) per day. CHF chose to sponsor Emmanuel because of his family’s economic situation and the strong desire he had to attend school. He is absolute in his desire to become a lawyer!
After sponsoring Emmanuel, he has done nothing but impress us with his passion for school. Ranking first in his class, it is inconceivable to let money keep Emmanuel from reaching his goal of becoming a lawyer. Reading his progress reports make all of us here at CHF smile and feel proud of his accomplishments. It is filled with remarks such as, “Calm and respectful…Interested in all subjects…Keep it up!” We know he will continue to excel in school and can’t wait to see where his life will lead him!
Project Update
Summertime is a very busy and exciting time for the Stop Labour & Trafficking Project. Five new volunteers have just arrived from universities in the US and Ghana to assist with our efforts. In the next few months we will continue interviewing labour and trafficking victims while evaluating their need to be sponsored for the next school year which begins in September. CHF will also provide vacation classes, labour and trafficking awareness talks, skills and literacy training and develop income generation strategies for the parents of the victims. This is also a time that we ask for your continued support of Cheerful Hearts Foundation and the Stop Labour & Trafficking Project. Your support has drastically changed the lives of many children and families in the rural communities of Ghana and is vital to continuing these programs.
Thank you for your support!
