The biggest challenge for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine right now is finding a place for temporary accommodation. Most spaces allocated for IDPs offer only short-term stays of a few weeks, yet many people cannot afford to rent housing on their own after this period. Buildings that were adapted at the beginning of the full-scale invasion for temporary residence often did not meet the standards for decent long-term living. Frequently, such spaces were schools and other educational institutions, which are now trying to function for their original purposes. As a result, the need for adequate housing has become particularly acute. Statistics show that people who do not have the opportunity to settle in new places often return to conflict zones or temporarily occupied territories, putting themselves and their children at greater risk.
The village of Shevchenkove has become a temporary shelter for IDPs from regions of active hostilities. Many of the arrivals are families with children who come without belongings, savings, or a home.
The community decided to convert an old outpatient clinic into compact housing for such families. Renovations in the building have already been completed, and basic furniture has been purchased, but many items necessary for decent living are still missing.
To finalize the living space, the following are needed:
Children’s play and relaxation area: corner sofa, soft armchair, bookshelf, children’s play set, etc.
Kitchen essentials: sets of pots and frying pans, deep and flat plates, spoons and forks, etc.
Other necessities: washing machine and dryer, fire extinguishers, window blinds and mosquito screens, laundry basins.
We have not yet raised funds for this campaign, but we have already begun actively promoting it.
