Project Report | Mar 23, 2020
The impact you made in 2019

By Lisa Balestrieri | Development Officer

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued loyalty in these uncertain and challenging times and to give a brief update on the impact your support had last year, in 2019.

With the help of our donors, in 2019 HALO destroyed over 150 landmines and UXO (unexploded ordnance) in Kosovo – clearing over 200 acres of minefield.

We could not have done this without our generous supporters – thank you!

The benefits of mine clearance are tangible, and the cleared land can be used safely in perpetuity. Zejnepe, who almost lost her husband in a landmine explosion in Kosovo months after the war ended, shared her gratitude that her home Village of Paldenica is almost free of landmines. She said, “I am too old now to really enjoy life, but I am happy knowing that my children and grandchildren will live in a safe place free of mines.” Soon, Paldenica will be mine free, and families like Zejnepe’s can use the forestland in their village without fear.

Thank you again - we are so grateful to have you in our global network of advocates and champions.

We sincerely hope that you and your families keep safe and well in the weeks ahead.
