Look at the determination in these children's eyes, such warriors they are, eager to defeat thalassemia amid yet another frightening pandemic.
Dear Donors, I hope this update finds you and your family in good health. Thank you for your generous support to our very first project on GlobalGiving. As you are aware that these few months have been very challenging for everyone out there due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and so has been the case with our organisation, we have faced many problems during the past few months, especially in arranging blood donations for the children suffering from thalassemia as they need a blood transfusion as often as twice weekly. Thanks to the efforts of our Blood Bank Team and all the volunteers who worked tirelessly and took part in special blood donation campaigns which were launched to encourage people to donate blood for the children suffering from thalassemia. Due to their efforts, the children didn't have to suffer from blood deficiency.
Due to the weaker immunity of the body (as a consequence of thalassemia and its repercussions, the affected children are especially prone to catch and suffer from disease easily). This was and still is an alarming situation and our doctors, nurses and the entire team made special efforts and followed all the SOPs to make sure that the treatment is provided in the safest environment to these little vulnerable patients.
The treatment for thalassemia requires the children to stay in bed/stretcher for a prolonged period, both at the time of blood transfusion and during parenteral iron chelation sessions (there are two types of iron chelation therapy, one is oral and the other is parenteral i-e given through needles. We provide both therapies to the children according to the treatment requirement). We also make efforts to turn these long boring hours into something interesting, which also serves to make these innocent angels forget about their pain. You can even spot the kids playing their favourite games during their routine hospital visits.
All these efforts were made possible with your support. We hope that you will continue to support us in this mission and will continue to be the hope of these little angels.
