Summary

This project will provide food and sustenance for a family of 8 with 6 children aged 8 months to 10 years. Parents are unemployed since father lost his job 3 years ago as a truck driver; he is willing to learn a new trade. The family lives in a hut built with wooden planks with no running water. None of the school aged children are in school. Mother is now reduced to begging for money on the unsafe streets, exposing the children to human traffickers, rape, and even death from ritual kidnappers.

Challenge

The family is in urgent need of a habitable home, food, healthcare, and education for the children. The school-aged children ( 5, 8 and 10) are not attending school because their parents can neither buy school uniforms and school supplies, nor pay for basic education services. The mother and three children (including 8-month old twins) take to the dangerous streets daily, begging for food, money and anything else for survival. The current hut is located on a saw mill and has no address.

Solution

Rehabilitating the family will ensure adequate food and healthcare. It will provide a habitable and safe dwelling, and education for the children. Re-training the father and securing a sustainable job will ensure he can provide for his family. The mother will be able to safely nurse her infants and also learn a trade to take up in the future. We are set to provide sustainable rehabilitation of the family, taking them from their present situation with the overall goal of a better life.

Long-Term Impact

Rehabilitating this family will ensure the family stays together; with the parents able to provide their family's needs, abandonment of their children, is unlikely. Currently, orphaned children are victims of rape, abuse, kidnappers, sex trafficking and ultimately untimely death. This family will have a renewed sense of self worth and an improved mental and physical health ; thereby giving them a chance to contribute positively in the society, ending their homelessness and destitution
